Kids get hurt while playing outside, a pet scratches us, or we get a hang nail. Making your own treatment for these types of things is really easy and healing to the skin.

Dangers of Traditional First Aid Ointments

Triple antibiotic ointments are commonly used for basic wound care. However there are some dangers, and it may or may not be effective. Some data says it helps wounds, and others do not show much effect, and still others say that wounds become worse with use.

Scientific evidence does definitely point to antibiotic resistance, however. With so many antibacterial sprays, hand sanitizers, soaps, and animals taking antibiotics – which we then eat – humans are becoming resistant to antibiotics when we need them for healing. So using a product with 3 antibiotics probably isn’t the best idea, especially if it may not even work.

And other first aid sprays have fragrance added, which is an endocrine disruptor. This can mess up your hormones, kidneys, and more.

So what do we do instead to help skin irritations?

You may also enjoy learning about other DIY ways to Detox Your Body.

What Ointment I Suggest

Owie spray is a homemade blend of frankincense, melaleuca, helichrysum, and lavender essential oils. Let’s look at the benefits of each.

Frankincense — This essential oil is known to be healing. Plus it is also supports a healthy inflammation response.

Lavender — Lavender helps to cleanse the skin, heal, and helps prevent scarring. It can help your skin not react to an injury as badly.

Melaleuca/Tea Tree — This oil is great for all types of skin irritations, and is my go-to for almost anything skin related.

Helichrysum — Helichrysum can help promote skin renewal. The synthetic scents come from petroleum, which is crude oil. Why would you want this on your skin, the largest organ of your body?!?

Plus they are loaded with endocrine disruptors that can contribute to things such as infertility, diabetes, and more.

Not to mention these ingredients come in contact with your genital area. This can lead to UTI’s, yeast infection, etc.

Even though you probably don’t want to take a bath again based on the above information, thankfully there is a healthy and even beneficial alternative.

Benefits of Epsom Salt Baths

The more I learn about bath salts and essential oils, the more I want to take a bath every day.

Just to name a few reasons, baths can help with digestion, aches and pains, sleep, and it can also help you breathe better. And the benefits of magnesium are incredible!

Why Epsom Salt and Magnesium?

Magnesium regulates over 300 enzymes in the body and plays an important role in organizing many bodily functions. These vital functions include:

Energy production, electrical impulses and helping you detoxify.

Magnesium deficiencies are associated with a number of chronic diseases including type 2 diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, kidney and liver damage, worsened PMS symptoms, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and many other issues.

Boosting your internal magnesium levels through external use of Epsom salt, you can help improve or ward off many avoidable health ailments.

Helping to relieve constipation.

Helping relieve aches and pains.

These amazing benefits can be yours, and it’s super easy! Here’s what you do.

You may also enjoy learning about more DIY Detox Your Body ideas!

How Much Epsom Salt For Bath?

Bath Salts Recipe: Mix ¾ cup Epsom salt with ¼ cup baking soda. It may be to their annual vacation spot or someplace different every year.

Our summer vacation of 2019 led us to spend the night in Montrose, Colorado, planning to visit Telluride in the morning. However, the next day at breakfast, a local told us that we should visit the Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Because it was only 20 minutes away and claimed to be “the hidden gem of Colorado,” we decided it was worth a shot.

A hidden gem indeed. The weather was gorgeous, the views were spectacular and the crowds were nonexistent. With 307,143 visitors in the year of 2017, there are so many sights to see without too many heads in your way, unlike at Yellowstone.

With all of these variables, this was my favorite national park we visited during our entire trip. We also had visited Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park, and Arches National Park.

What to do at Black Canyon National Park

In the park, there are two rims of the canyon, the North and the South Rim. Where you are coming from might determine which rim you go to, due to the fact that the two rims are so far apart by car. We came in and hiked on the South Rim, so we can provide pictures for those hikes highlighted below.

South Rim

Now that you know that we went to Black Canyon National Park on a whim, it’s not detective work to figure out that we did not have any idea where to begin.

Due to the fact that no research was done before we visited the Black Canyon, we asked a ranger at their lovely visitor’s center what he recommended. We told him that we didn’t want to go all the way down into the canyon and wished for relatively short hikes (around two miles long). Here are a few hikes he recommended to us.

Hike #1 – Oak Flat Loop Trail

Out first hike was this beautiful 2-mile hike called Oak Flat Loop Trail. There were a few benches on the hike and it was right behind the visitor’s center for added convenience. Below are some pictures I took on that hike. The views were stunning!

The hike was relatively shady and it offered great views. It was an easy hike, even for those not used to the elevation.

Hike #2 – Warner Point Nature Trail

This next hike is Warner Point Nature Trail. It was at the end of the South Rim, the last stop on the road. It was 1.5 miles and a moderate (yet hilly) hike. The views were also just as breathtaking as Oak Flat Loop. Below are a few pictures from Warner Point.

North Rim

The wildlife and scenery on both of the hikes were absolutely amazing. We were at the Black Canyon for no more than four hours. However, we didn’t go into the canyon itself (which would have taken much longer and required a permit). We also didn’t see the North Rim.

Why?

Because the hikes on the other side were longer and it took about a two-hour drive to get to the other side of the canyon. If you are one to prefer longer hikes, the North Rim might be the rim for you.

Hike #1 – Deadhorse Trail

There is a 5-mile roundtrip hike called Deadhorse trail. However, according to AllTrails, the views are pretty much what you get from the road. I recommend it if you just want to hike.

Hike #2 – North Vista Trail to Green Mountain

This second hike is a 7-mile roundtrip hike, North Vista Trail to Green Mountain. This hike is rated very highly on AllTrails, and everyone seems to love it!

RV and Campsites

If you want to buy your very own tent, just like ours (and I highly recommend it), you can do so here.

The best way to enjoy nature is to spend all 24 hours of the day in it, like camping or RVing! Now let’s look at some awesome RV and campsites in the Black Canyon!

Campground #1 – South Rim Campground

South Rim Campground, with 57 campsites, is tent and RV friendly. It provides toilets and electricity hookups for RVs. It also allows pets and campfires. You can book your visit to this campsite here.

Campground #2 – East Portal Campground

East Portal Campground, with only 15 sites, is a first come first served campsite with provided bathrooms. Campfires are allowed, and firepits are provided.

Where to rent RV’s

An RV adds much more fun to your camping trip, plus you get a cozy bed and a small living area/kitchen. If you are interested in renting an RV, I have an awesome blog post about some super cool RV’s (like an ambulance RV!).

Final Thoughts

Before you go, it would be best for you to remember that from all sides of the canyon, there are miles of farmland and mountains. For that reason, it is recommended not to travel to the Black Canyon without a travel buddy, for reasons such as your car breaking down or weather troubles.

As Coloradan hikers know, it is not always safe to hike alone, due to wildlife or possible injury. And remember, take pictures, leave footprints, and of course… have fun! Happy Hiking!

If you enjoyed this article, you’re sure to like 10 Family-Friendly Places to go in Colorado Springs or Top 8 Astonishing Reasons to Go Camping. I’m tired of my job and want to do my own thing to make a living…

Do any of the above statement sounds like you or your partner? My husband and I have been diving deeply into the investment and entrepreneurship world like crazy the past few months.

Click below to save on Pinterest to read later.

Financial Health

Financial health is a very real thing, but doesn’t get as much attention as diet, exercise, health care, etc. But finances are one of the main stressors of life. And stress causes so many health concerns as we know.

Plus health can look like so many things including physical, spiritual, mental, emotional, and yes – even financial.

So today I wanted to let you into some of our personal journey regarding finance, small business, and investments. And hopefully you can learn a few things to kickstart your thinking and decision making as well.

In the spring of 2019, we stumbled upon a docuseries called “Money Revealed.” We watched most of the 9 episodes with our mouths hanging open and our minds reeling.

Our eyes were opened to a whole new way of thinking about finances that we had not really been exposed to much before.

In “Money Revealed” we heard from financial whizzes like Robert Kiyosaki, Garrett Gunderson, real estate investors, stock traders, cryptocurrency experts, Amazon sellers, a doTERRA rep talking about MLM’s, and so many more.

Before I go on, let me say that I am not at all a financial planner or expert in financial things. But as I learn I like to share with others. Please talk with your financial team before making any decisions. This is just what I have personally taken away from my studies.

Financial Changes

After these 9 sessions and 18 interviews, here are some of our main takeaways.

We want to pull out our 401(k). After understanding the history of 401(k)s and it’s probable future with Baby Boomers cashing in soon, how it’s taxed, and many other things, we realize there may be nothing left for us when it’s time for us to retire.

We want to learn investing well so that we can be in charge of our financial destiny, not pawn it off on someone else.

We only have enough money for one year of retirement as of today, assuming my husband retires at age 65. Because of this we realize,

We must find ways to create cashflow! This would take care of us in retirement way longer than just one year.

Some of the main ways to create cashflow are through real estate, starting a business that can ultimately run without you, and investing in stocks and commodities. These can also come with great tax benefits.

Do you have enough money to retire on? If not, join most Americans!

But instead of just being flippant about it and putting it off until we are retired, my husband and I have been feverishly reading good financial books.

Financial Books

I know there are books out there that basically say give all you can to your retirement account, and save, save, save!

This book list is NOT that. I am not against this idea if that’s what you choose, but we are choosing a different path that makes more sense to us now that we are beginning to educate ourselves.

This is not every book we have read, but the best ones that keep coming up in conversations, on podcasts, and that we have actually read. We have read other great books recently, but these are our favorites.

So please do yourself a favor and read one or all of these depending on your interest! They are broken down into three categories: Investment Books, Business Books, and Personal Finance Books.

1. Investment Books

Cashflow Quadrant: Rich Dad’s Guide to Financial Freedom (Robert Kiyosaki) is like Rich Dad Poor Dad: Part 2 according to the beginning of this book. I really enjoyed the original, but the reason I listed Cashflow Quadrant as my preference is because Kiyosaki does a good job of explaining how to get from the left side of the quadrant (Employee and Self-employeed) to the right side (Big business owner and Investor). Investor is a great quadrant to be in, so I like learning how to do that and the mind sets involved to help you as well.

Killing Sacred Cows: Overcoming the Financial Myths That Are Destroying Your Prosperity (Garrett Gunderson) is really enlightening in terms of the 401(k) and pension issue. I would read anything this guy puts out. He really knows his stuff!

What Would the Rockefellers Do?: How the Wealthy Get and Stay That Way (Garrett Gunderson) looks at how the Rockefellers set up a system to maintain their money for future generations. By understanding what they have done, this book shows you how you can do it, too. Use your money without losing it.

How to Invest in Real Estate: The Ultimate Beginner’s Guide to Getting Started (Joshua Dorkin and Brandon Turner) is my favorite real estate investing book so far. This book is great for newbies like myself. They break it down into really easy to understand lingo and help you think through how to start in real estate investing.

2. Business Books

Choose: The Single Most Important Decision Before Starting Your Business (Ryan Levesque) is a helpful business book if you are considering starting your own business. There are helpful worksheets to help you think through the process of knowing which type of business you should start or what type of ebook you should write. There is a green, yellow and red light concept to help guide your process into the right market.

Start Your Own Corporation: Why the Rich Own Their Own Companies and Everyone Else Works for Them (Garrett Sutton). The title says it all! It’s written by a Rich Dad lawyer, and he goes over really specific things you will need to do legally to open and run a business. He discusses choosing the entity, getting a proper team together of CPA, attorney, bookkeeper, etc. This book was actually really overwhelming and let me see all that goes into a proper business… and all that could go wrong and how to protect yourself.

Never Lose a Customer Again: Turn Any Sale into Lifelong Loyalty in 100 Days (Joey Coleman) helps you think through your customer’s experience with you and how to anticipate their needs before they even notice them. As you make them feel noticed and appreciated, you increase their loyalty and your profits as well.

The ONE Thing: The Surprisingly Simple Truth Behind Extraordinary Results (Gary W. Keller and Jay Papasan) is good to help you think through your priorities and how to weed things out of your life that drain you or suck your time. A lot of entrepreneurs bounce from one thing to another until they find something that “lands,” but then you never really become an expert at anything. This books guides you through questions to narrow your focus on your one thing and how to prioritize that.

How to Win Friends and Influence People (Dale Carnegie) is a book I avoided for a long while because the title sounded like it was encouraging manipulation. That is the farthest thing from the truth about this book. It encourages you to pay attention to people, take care of their needs, and honestly be good friends to others. Simple, empowering, and needed.

Getting to Yes: Negotiating Agreement Without Giving In (Roger Fisher and William Ury) gives you confidence in one of the most neglected part of business: negotiation. This book shows how to look beyond positions to find common interests that can help lead to satisfactory agreements from both sides. Don’t give up, but work together with others to find creative and fair options.

3. Personal Finance Books

Set for Life: Dominate Life, Money, and the American Dream (Scott Trench) is a wonderful well-rounded book. It’s great for personal finance as he covers everything from living within your means to how to start in real estate and stocks. I even had my teen-aged daughter read it and she loved it. I think this is a great book for anyone, especially a teen or young adult just starting out.

Another thing I like about it is that he breaks it down into 3 easy to understand parts. Part 1 is how to get your first $25,000. Part 2 is how to get from $25,000 to $100,000 through housing and income generation. Finally, Part 3 is moving from $100,000 to financial freedom.

Tax Free Wealth: How to Build Massive Wealth by Permanently Lowering Your Taxes (Tom Wheelwright) is kind of a geek out book, but I loved it. He is a Rich Dad CPA and breaks down so many ways that understanding the tax code helps us save money. I had no idea!! When we do what the government wants, they give us deductions and credits! Again, mind blown.

You may find this article helpful: 7 Easy Ways to Stay Motivated

I hope you find this helpful as you consider your retirement, financial future, and investments. Here are 3 nourishing herbs that can boast the minerals in your body. #herbs #nourishyourbody #healthy" width="267" height="400">

Unfortunately, today a lot people are deficient in minerals. There are many reasons for this from poor diet or poor absorption of vitamins and minerals in the body. There are things like consumption of modern pharmaceuticals to the fact that our cultivated vegetables no longer contain as many nutrients as their wild counterparts. This can manifest in the body as tiredness, lethargy, brain fog, sleeplessness, brittle hair and nails, irritability, increased anxiety and poor immune function. Often when people are experiencing those types of symptoms, diet is one of the first places we should look.

When most folks want to increase their mineral levels, such as iron intake, they tend to look at increasing meat consumption, especially red meat. However, plants are an excellent option for this purpose. And drinking your minerals is a great alternative to sneak in extra nutrients, giving you extra energy and mental clarity throughout the day. Read on to hear about my top 3 nourishing herbs that are easily available from either your garden or health food store and a recipe for a nourishing infusion!

Nettles Urtica dioica

Yes, the stinging kind! Stinging nettles are a powerhouse of nutrition and one of my personal favorites for helping to restore minerals in my body and for making me feel strong! Nettles are a traditional spring tonic and are an excellent herbal ally for pregnancy and nursing. It helps to restore iron levels in a gentler way than some supplements and also helps to promote the production of breastmilk.

Nettles contain vitamins A, C, E and K, and minerals chromium, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, silica, iron, zinc. You can harvest nettles before they come into flower using thick gloves to protect your hands from the stinging hairs that line the leaf and stem. They can then be dried in bunches (note that once nettles are dried or cooked, they no longer sting!) and stored in a mason jar. Alternatively, you can find dried nettles in most health food stores or your local apothecary.

You may also enjoy learning about more DIY Detox Your Body products!

Raspberry leaf Rubus spp.

Raspberry leaf has gained popularity through the years as an herb for pregnancy and postpartum, helping to prepare the uterus for childbirth and restore its elasticity following the birth. However, it is also highly nutritious containing vitamins B, C, and E as well as the minerals calcium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, niacin, magnesium. Raspberry leaf is also helpful for regulating the menstrual cycle and can be used to help lessen heavy menstrual bleeding. If you grow raspberries organically at home, you can gather the spring leaves before the plant blossoms and dry them on screens or in baskets to use throughout the year. Raspberry leaf is readily available in most health food stores.

Oatstraw Avena sativa

Oatstraw is essentially the leaves and stem of the oat plant. Once dried it makes a delicious and nourishing tea and contains silica, magnesium, phosphorus, chromium, iron, calcium, as well as vitamins B, A, C, E and K. Aside from being deeply nourishing, oatstraw also supports the nervous system and can be helpful for feelings of overwhelm or feeling frazzled and exhausted. Oatstraw gently nourishes our bodies and is a great tonic to promote balance in both the body and the mind. Oatstraw is often used by farmers as a cover crop to help restore nutrients in the soil – ask at your local organic farm if they have oatstraw for sale or find it in your health food store.

Remember if you are harvesting plants from the wild to make sure you are 100% on your identification. And only harvest from clean areas away from places like roadsides or railways or areas that you suspect have been sprayed with herbicides or pesticides.

Recipe for nourishing herbal infusion

½ cup Oatstraw

½ cup Nettles

½ cup Raspberry leaf

Add your herbs to a 1-quart mason jar.

Fill to the top with boiling water (In my experience I have found it’s best to do this in a sink!) and stir gently.

Once cool enough to touch put the lid on and leave in the fridge for at least four hours but preferably overnight.

Strain and compost the herbs or give them to your chickens.

Keep the infusion in the fridge and drink around 8oz per day. Your infusion will stay good in the fridge for 4 days.

Note that folks with a dry constitution (i.e. if you suffer from dry skin) may find this infusion too drying for them. If so, you can add ¼ cup of marshmallow root to balance the blend and make it less drying.

Becky is a mother, herbalist, Reiki practitioner and owner/creator of Cedar Hill Herbs where she creates herbal remedies and organic botanical skincare products from homegrown and ethically wildcrafted ingredients. She is also the founder and coordinator of the One World Herbal Community. Based out of the Okanagan Valley in the interior of British Columbia, she is passionate about organic gardening, inspiring and educating folks about plants and their uses and serving her community.

One of my daughters has had issues with eczema throughout her life, so I wanted natural products to help her skin. And traditional face cleansers are loaded with endocrine disruptors and dry my skin out too much. So I started making coconut oil based cleansers.

Why I Chose Each Ingredient

Coconut oil is great for the skin because it helps to cleanse and purify, plus it is antimicrobial.

And baking soda is good for the skin because it is alkaline in nature, clears and opens up pores, and absorbs excess oil. I also like how it makes my skin feel lightly exfoliated.

And of course high-quality essential oils are good for the skin. The 5 I have chosen below have been shown to have positive effects on the skin for different reasons. You can click on each one to read more about the specific oil.

** These statements have not been evaluated by the Food and Drug Administration. Please talk to your doctor before you begin <g class="gr_ gr_83 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del" id="83" data-gr-id="83">any</g> regimen. I will refer to CBD oil, and that is a 1 mL dose I am talking about. But please check with your brand to see what they recommend as there are many different strengths available.

My Story with CBD Oil

When I first heard about CBD from hemp oil, I stumbled upon it trying to find a natural remedy for my mom who had just been diagnosed with a brain tumor. The more I read about CBD oil and cancer, the more interested I became. I knew that radiation and chemo would be hard on her body, and I wanted to help her find a natural solution.

But I don’t advocate using drugs, not even the use of marijuana, because I have seen what it does to people, their relationships, and their brains. So I was stuck between what I had always believed about drugs and helping my dying mother.

We were in North Carolina at the time, and I was ready to move her to California (where marijuana was legal) so we could get the medicine we needed for her. She didn’t want to move, understandably. Her doctor laughed at me for asking if he could prescribe her CBD oil or anything like that to treat her. My extended family was not supportive of natural healing for her either.

The end of the story with my mom is that 11 weeks after diagnosis, she passed away. Would a natural remedy like CBD oil have worked for her? I’ll never know, but I do know that traditional medicine only made her remaining weeks of life full of illness, doctor’s appointments, treatments, and hardship. And I would have preferred another path.

Is CBD Oil Legal?

So here we are after my mom passed away, and I am still hung up on CBD from hemp oil. I am healthy and love natural remedies, and this idea wouldn’t let me go. So I did what I do… I researched. My first question was, “Is CBD oil legal outside of a few states that allow marijuana use?”

I found out that CBD oil has <g class="gr_ gr_60 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="60" data-gr-id="60">recentily</g> been legalized in all the states in the US. So I continued to research. People I trusted like Dr. Axe and Trim Healthy Mama were starting to support the use of CBD products. I got pretty excited! I love finding new natural ways to treat myself and my family.

FDA AND LEGAL DISCLOSURE: These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

Most work-place drug screens and tests target delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and do not detect the presence of Cannabidiol (CBD) or other legal natural hemp based constituents. Even though the products we promote contain less than .3% THC by dry weight (Federal Legal Limit), studies have shown that ingesting Full Spectrum CBD can cause confirmed positive results when screening urine and blood specimens. Accordingly, if you are subject to any form of employment drug testing or screening, we recommend (as does the United States Armed Services) that you DO NOT take CBD products.

Can CBD Oil Get You High?

I also found out that the CBD oil effect does not give you the sense of being “high.” This is a bit scientific in nature. But essentially, CBD oil uses CBD, not THC. Read on…

CBD Oil Is Short for Cannabidiol

THC is the ingredient that causes the high feeling. Hemp in its original state is really beneficial for humans and does not cause a high.

But people have tampered with and hybridized the marijuana plant, causing the THC ingredients to come out because some people like the feeling of being drugged. But apparently, the marijuana plant in its truest form does not cause a high. I found this really interesting, <g class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="7" data-gr-id="7">to</g> be honest.

So when choosing a CBD company, if you are like me and don’t want to lose your <g class="gr_ gr_33 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" id="33" data-gr-id="33">mental</g> clarity, then make sure you check the ratio of THC to CBD. If it is <.3% THC, then it is under the federal limit and cannot get you high.

You may also enjoy learning about more DIY Detox Your Body products!

CBD Benefits

What does CBD oil do? There are many health benefits of CBD in hemp oil. CBD can help restore balance in your body and allow your body to heal, which I love! There are several benefits of CBD oil listed in the infographic below posted by Dr. Axe, and in my <g class="gr_ gr_11 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="11" data-gr-id="11">comments</g> I will show how adding an essential oil or two can assist the hemp oil CBD in doing an even better job!

CBD Oil for Sleep and Relaxation

For me personally, CBD tincture mixed with lavender essential oil has helped me sleep better. I use a 500mg bottle of CBD (30mL) with about 20 drops of lavender and shake.

I take it at night before bed, and I started by putting about .5mL under my tongue for about a minute. Gradually, I made it up to 1mL over the course of a few nights. Then I swallow the oils and brush my teeth before bed. It’s that easy!

The first week I didn’t notice much difference. But after a few nights, I realized I was going to sleep faster and staying asleep through the night! You may find my article on sleep helpful: How to Get Better Sleep Naturally Tonight.

CBD Oil for Cough

My daughter had a really bad cough after a cold, and what worked best for her was taking CBD oil (.5mL) and 2 drops of turmeric essential oil. (You can read about this by clicking the link.) She took the CBD tincture under her tongue, and I gave her the turmeric essential oil in an empty veggie capsule to swallow. Both of these ingredients reduce inflammation which can help with an irritating cough.

Maybe CBD can work for your cough, too!

CBD Oil for Pain and Inflammation

One of the reasons I love both CBD oil and essential oils is their wonderful versatility! When you buy good quality CBD oil and essential oils, you can use both of them as oils or lotions (topically), as well as internally. This gives you a lot of options!

So for CBD oil for pain, I put a dropper full of CBD oil (about 1mL) and one drop of Copaiba essential oil under my tongue for a minute, then swallow.

Another option is that you could rub a little bit of CBD oil and one drop of Copaiba oil (or one drop of Deep Blue – your choice) directly onto your skin for muscle soreness, aches, pains, or bruising. This may not be wise for a cut, but for soreness it’s great! You may like my blog post about My Top 5 Helps for Natural Pain Relief.

FDA AND LEGAL DISCLOSURE: These statements have not been evaluated by the FDA and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.

CBD Oil for Anxiety

There are a few essential oils I recommend for anxious feelings. This article goes over them in more detail and how to use them: Best Essential Oils for Calming Anxious Feelings.

To combine essential oils and CBD together for stress and anxious feelings, you could:

use one drop of lavender and CBD oil under the tongue like mentioned in the sleep section above. This can help calm you.

add a drop Bergamot essential oil and 1 mL of CBD oil to a cup of tea for some Earl Gray. (or take the CBD under the tongue before you drink the tea if you don’t prefer CBD in your tea)

take one drop of Copaiba and 1 mL of CBD oil as noted above in the pain section as this can also work for anxious feelings and uplifting mood.

add one drop of a citrus essential oil under your tongue with CBD oil. Citrus is helpful in promoting a positive attitude.

blend one drop of frankincense essential oil with CBD for calming and grounding.

In addition to the above ways you can ingest a good quality essential oil with CBD, you could also diffuse the essential oils listed. And you could take CBD orally or use a CBD rub topically as well.

Supports Optimal Immune Function

As noted in the intro, I wish I could have had the chance to try this one with my mom. Even if CBD does not often cure cancer, I am sure that it could help reduce the symptoms of chemo, radiation, and stress that goes along with a cancer diagnosis. Just helping to alleviate stressful feelings and build immunity would be enough to give me the desire to at least try it to see how it worked. I definitely don’t think it would hurt at all to try CBD if you find yourself in this situation.

CBD Pure Oil Can Help Relieve Nausea

You can take CBD oil for nausea, and what can really help this is either peppermint or ginger essential oil. Diffusing peppermint is great for nausea. And ginger can help when taken orally. So I would put ginger essential oil in a veggie capsule and take it around the same time you take CBD. You can also rub peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil on your stomach.

May Help With Neurological Disorders

In addition to a <g class="gr_ gr_5 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="5" data-gr-id="5">high quality</g> CBD oil, I would add frankincense and spikenard essential oils to help with neurological disorders. You can take both of these essential oils (only good quality ones) topically, internally, and aromatically. Try all three ways to see which one yields the best results.

Supports Healthy Blood Sugar Regulation

While taking CBD to help maintain an already healthy blood sugar level, I would add cinnamon and coriander essential oils. Both of these can be taken orally (in water or a veggie capsule) or topically on the bottoms of the feet with a carrier oil.

Promotes Cardiovascular Health

Some good essential oils you can use with CBD oil from hemp for cardiovascular health are:

marjoram to support the heart muscle.

black pepper to warm and tone blood vessels.

geranium to support the heart, blood, and blood vessels.

<g class="gr_ gr_6 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="6" data-gr-id="6">ylang ylang</g> to help balance the heart rate.

All of the above can be used aromatically in a diffuser. They can also be used topically with a carrier oil on the bottoms of your feet, along your spine, or on your chest. And these oils (if they are high quality and it says you can ingest on the bottle) can be ingested as well in water, in a capsule, or under the tongue.

How Do I Use CBD?

Now that you have read all about the benefits of CBD oil, how CBD cannabis oil won’t get you high, and how easy it is to blend them with essential oils, I bet you are wondering about where to buy CBD oil.

First, we will look at the ways or methods of using CBD oil, then we will look at what to consider when buying CBD hemp oils to help you make a good educated decision.

CBD Oil

CBD oil is the most basic and versatile way to use CBD I think, especially with essential oils. And that’s mostly what I have discussed above. But there are many different ways you can get CBD into your system, so keep reading!

CBD Vape Oil

CBD vaporizer oil is another method by which you can take CBD. The CBD oil effect and speed of effect may be a little bit different depending on the method you use, but the benefit should be similar.

With vaping CBD oil, you will need a CBD oil vape pen. There is a warning against this method with certain brands. S<g class="gr_ gr_79 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="79" data-gr-id="79">ome</g> CBD oils have propylene glycol in them, which when burned can turn into formaldehyde and cause dangerous or adverse reactions.

CBD Edibles

A tasty way to get your CBD in is with CBD Gummies. The watermelon flavored ones taste like Sour Patch Kids. So they are good but keep them away from your children or they may eat them like candy, which, of course, is not good.

There are also different candy flavors like Golden Maple Caramels or Chocolate Bliss! Yumm-o!

CBD Capsules

CBD Capsules are easy to swallow and come in different doses. These are easy to keep with you so you can take them on the run if needed.

CBD Water

CBD water is specially formulated to give your body the best absorption of CBD so none of the goodness is lost.

Hemp Infused Coffee

If you love coffee like my husband and I do, then this is for you! Each cup of hemp infused coffee contains 5 mg of hemp-derived CBD. It’s also non-GMO, <g class="gr_ gr_31 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="31" data-gr-id="31">gluten free</g>, and vegan. Sounds like a great way to start the day, right?

CBD Coffee Creamers

Hazelnut, vanilla <g class="gr_ gr_7 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Punctuation only-ins replaceWithoutSep" id="7" data-gr-id="7">and</g> mocha CBD coffee creamers! Again, you can’t go wrong. Each coffee creamer with hemp extract has 5mg CBD. Plus they are <g class="gr_ gr_10 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling ins-del multiReplace" id="10" data-gr-id="10">gluten free</g>, vegan, keto, and <g class="gr_ gr_9 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling multiReplace" id="9" data-gr-id="9">sugar free</g>. Yum!

CBD Isolate

CBD Isolate can come in a couple of different forms, like powders and crystals. The powder is finely ground and can be incorporated into cooking or baking. Crystals are bigger and can be mixed with slightly warmed coconut oil and used on the skin. This can be good for acne or pains.

Where Can I Buy CBD Oil?

As you can imagine, lots of companies are wanting to get on the CBD bandwagon and make money while it’s hot. There are some good companies out there, and some not so good companies. Your health is your most valuable asset, so you know the value of the best quality CBD oil.

When searching for a good quality CBD oil company, make sure they have a Certificate of Analysis (COA). This means that the manufacturer tests for contaminants and it meets lab standards.

If you ask for one and they don’t provide it (yes this happened to me!) or you can’t find a COA on a company’s website, you can assume the quality is poor. The product may not work well because it’s been watered down, or it has too many contaminants and they don’t want to post their findings.

So if you are looking for a CBD oil sale, bulk CBD oil, or wholesale CBD oil, you may find one, but be sure that it is good quality before you give them a penny.

Before taking CBD products, consult with your healthcare practitioner, drug screening testing company or employer and see if they recommend a zero thc version of the cbd oil which is available for purchase. Most CBD sites require you to also be at least 18 years or older to promote CBD products.

CBD Oil Review

CBD Oil is still new to being legal across America, and a lot is changing with it right now. But my brief CBD Oil Review for what I currently know is here. I have used the ones listed below, so it’s first hand experience, not just internet research.

In my research and using 3 different brands over the last few months, I have a couple of recommendations. You can look here for my main recommendation for the best CBD oil. Here’s why it ranks number 1 for me.

This brand is a good price, organic, and non-GMO. There are many ways to use it (including coffee!) which are listed above. This brand has helped me with pain, sleep, and mood. There are different strengths as well, depending on your needs. So this one has a good overall variety of use/methods, it’s organic, it works, and the cost is in line with other brands.

Plus, they will give you a 60-day empty bottle refund. If you change your mind within 60 days of ordering, send it back and they’ll refund your purchase. So you have nothing to lose except the price of shipping unless it works! Love it!

The number 2 product my family likes is also listed above in “How to Use CBD” section. We like the gummies and the fact that they have capsules. We have not tried the capsules, but I think it would be great for travel. They also have vaping, wax, chocolate, and a super wide variety of options, more options than number 1. The products worked well and the price seemed on par with other good quality CBD oils.

I also used THM Feminine Balance CBD Oil, and it was nice. It helped me sleep, which was the main benefit I noticed. A couple of issues happened though. This is their only product, and it was a low dose. Also, they said it was infused with clary sage, but they later announced it was actually sage. And thirdly, they ran out of stock after a few days. Again, it is a good product, but there were issues I ran into.

I looked into Select CBD. They never provided me with a COA, and it is not on their site. So I cannot recommend them.

CBD Oil for Dogs

Dogs can have several different issues that CDB oil can help – stress, health concerns, skin conditions, mobility difficulty, digestion issues, and more. Here are a couple of recommendations for CBD Oil for Dogs.

This one has a good variety for dogs like CBD dog treats for example, which is why I like it.

This one has a special CBD oil for dogs which is good, too.

CBD Oil for Cats

And CBD for cats can also be necessary at times. These CBD hemp oil benefits in the form of cat treats and tinctures can help with things like pain, anxiety, and serious medical conditions.

You may enjoy this article The Best Essential Oils for Cats and Dogs.

Are You Ready to Give it a Try?

Now it’s your turn! I hope you decide to give it a try because CBD is so beneficial to your overall health. If you have any questions before buying CBD oil, please just let me know. Read here for great Valentine's Day suggestions and date activities! #valentines #dateideas #marriage">

It’s almost upon us. The day diabetics everywhere love to hate. The day for which chocolate companies have a giant tear-off countdown calendar posted on the wall.

I am, of course, talking about Valentine’s Day.

Now your opinion on Valentine’s Day could range anywhere from “it’s a scam perpetrated by the flower and card industry” to “oh I don’t know how I’m going to top the romantic shenanigans we got up to last year.” It’s kind of a mixed bag for whether people like the holiday or not.

However, I’d like to go out on a limb and say that us healthy-minded (or healthy-attempting) people out there are kind of sick of the implication that the only way to be a “good” Valentine is by dosing your significant other with enough chocolate to kill a zoo elephant.

My hubby is a fervent chocoholic, but he’s trying to cut back. So this year he issued me a very hard challenge – no edible presents for Valentine’s Day.

The Challenge: A Valentine’s Day Without Edible Presents

So you want to take the diabetes out of Valentine’s Day? Where do you even start? Most of the gifts are either chocolate or candy. Those that aren’t chocolate or candy are decidedly female-oriented.

Let’s be honest. Flowers, mushy cards, giant teddy bears, and jewelry aren’t really on most men’s wish list.

So what can you do if you want to pamper your spouse without putting them into a sugar-induced coma or covering their desk in singing cupid plushies?

I’ve done a lot of research on it this year. The following categories are all ways to give your spouse a memorable and meaningful Valentine’s Day present without all the unnecessary calories.

#1: Gifts From His Past or From Your History as a Couple

These are a personal favorite of mine. In the early days of our relationship, my now-husband mentioned that his favorite toy as a kid was the Hamburglar wind up car you used to get in your McDonalds happy meals back in the 80’s. I happened to remember this conversation one of the first Valentine’s Days after we got married and, surprisingly enough, found one pretty easily on the mighty eBay for less than $10.

To this day, the only thing I regret about this gift is that I have yet to find anything else that measures up to it. He was absolutely blown away that I actually remembered the conversation, not to mention that I found one. And to this day it’s still proudly displayed in his closet so he can see it every morning when he gets dressed.

Anything you get that has a connection to his past or to your history as a couple is guaranteed to be a hit. You can get him memorabilia from his childhood favorite professional athlete, a gift card to the restaurant where you had your first date, or really anything that has a sentimental connection to a place or activity he used to love.

The bonus here is that they are usually pretty inexpensive. And if you can come up with a good idea, it’s guaranteed to be a hit!

#2: Activities that You Can Do Together

This is my favorite gift to receive. Instead of giving a physical present, take your spouse on an adventure.

The range of options here is huge. If you’re on the sportier side, try to find an adventure race that the two of you can do together (Tough Mudder, Spartan Race, Zombie Run, Color Run, Bubble Run…there seem to be an endless supply of these).

If you’re into a certain type of delicacy, you can tour a brewery, vineyard, or some other specialty place where your favorite thing is made.

If you both like the same sports team you can get surprise tickets to a game. (Actually, this one probably means even more if you don’t like the same sports teams and you agree to root for his team anyway.)

If you don’t want to spend too much money, there are lots of gorgeous spots that you can access for free (local parks, trails, or scenic overlooks) where you can easily take a picnic (or takeout from your spouse’s favorite restaurant).

Whatever you do, make sure you snap a picture of the two of you. You can print and frame it later as a fun little surprise gift after the fact and a reminder of what a fun time you had.

#3: Homemade Gifts

These are often the most time consuming but the most meaningful to receive.

Are you away from your spouse for long periods of time? (Maybe he’s in the military or has to go on extended work trips…) Try writing things you love about him on index cards (one each), folding them up, and putting them in a jar so he gets a love note each day next time he’s away.

If you’re artistic you can draw your spouse a picture book of how you met, how you got together, or another notable time in your lives. (Or if you’re not artistic you can make an epic stick figure creation. These can be fun too.)

These gifts can be as large or small as your imagination (and time schedule) allows. Take your time and think about what your spouse would really enjoy.

You may also enjoy learning about more DIY Detox Your Body products for your guy!

One Last Thing to Consider

Make sure you take your spouse’s love language into account when thinking of potential gifts.

If you don’t know what this means, you can read this blog post on called How to Express Love to Your Child for a quick overview. Basically, the theory here is that people express and receive love in different ways, so to get someone to really feel “loved” by you, you need to learn to “speak” the love language they understand. The 5 Love Languages are words of affirmation, gifts, acts of service, physical touch, and quality time.

When it comes to giving gifts, if your spouse’s primary love language is quality time, you might want to opt for one of the activities described in #2. If they like words of affirmation, one of the homemade gifts in #3 would be perfect. Take a second to think about what your spouse values most and try to match your gift to what they like best.

Guest Blogger

Liz is a wife, mom, blogger, coder/unabashed digital nerd, PhD student/huge psychology geek, workout masochist, and occasional human being. For your next snack time, try these simple switches! #kids #healthysnacks #snackideas">

We have all been guilty of sneaking healthy things into our kids’ meals to try to disguise the nutrition under the familiarity of their favorite foods. We have also all had those days where the fight to get the kids to eat healthily is just too much and we give in to what they want.

But finding healthy alternatives to their favorite foods and making the healthy foods fun is key to getting them to eat nutritious meals without all the hassle.

The easiest way to start healthy habits is with snack time.

Rather than springing a very different meal on your kids at an important part of the day, subtly switching things over can be easier. This gives you and your children less stress to have it eaten and can make it much easier to start the healthy trend.

7 Surprisingly Healthy Snacks for Kids

The easiest way to get your kids eating healthier is to take the things they are already familiar with and make them healthier. Rather than changing everything at once, start small and simple.

If your kids are anything like mine, they will recognize the shapes and be willing to try it. But if you tell them what is in it before they try it, it is hopeless. So for your next snack time, try these simple switches to getting your kids eating a more nutritious diet.

Sweet Potato Fries

Kids love French fries, that is just a fact. The shapes are easy to handle and they taste amazing, which is undoubtedly why you will see a plate of them around kids in restaurants. So switching out the regular potatoes with a sweet potato alternative can be a great way to get them eating healthier without having to completely forgo the French fries.

Sweet potatoes are filling, but they also filled with nutrients that the regular potato does not have like Vitamin A, folate, and B6. This makes them the better alternative.

Muffins

Muffins don’t always have to be a sugar-filled mini cake. Sometimes you can create amazing tasting muffins that will also be healthy and your kids will want to eat. This includes pumpkin muffins with whole oats, carrots, and absolutely no flour or added sugar.

You can add other things like berries or try different flavors, but there are plenty of healthy muffin recipes out there that the kiddos will really love.

Smoothies

Smoothies are not only simple to make, but also easy to customize to the kid’s preferences without having to skip on the healthy aspects. Add the fruits and vegetables of your choice to the mixture and mask that with a little juice and yogurt to make it taste more like their favorite juice but with less sugar and more nutritional benefits.

Fruit and Cheese Wands

It is amazing how much a stick makes a difference to a child’s food. Simply buy a pack of barbeque sticks/skewers and place the food onto it. (Just make sure your child is old enough to not get hurt with it.) While we might see kabobs as an inconvenience, children see a wand of food they can enjoy eating.

You can do cheese and fruit pairings, include veggies, and even cut up their sandwiches and put it on a stick to make it more interesting to them.

Ice Pops

Rather than buying ice pops from the supermarket, you can make your own! This can be a nice way to bond with your children and create a fun activity in the summertime to make your own.

As parents, we get to control what goes into the ice pops to guarantee they stay healthy, but your kids also get to enjoy creating their snack and reaping the delicious benefits on the hot summer days.

You may also enjoy learning about more DIY Detox Your Body products for your kiddos here!

Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches

The classic go-to snack for every kid, the peanut butter and jelly sandwich is a great option for on the go parents. And we don’t have to worry about settling for an unhealthy snack.

Peanut butter is a fantastic source of protein and good fats and going with wheat bread will give your child extra fiber in their diet. Just don’t go too heavy on the jelly and opt for healthier options like naturally sweetened jams.

Cookies

Didn’t think you would see cookies on this list did you? But the cookies I’m talking about are very different than the standard bake sale cookies you have in mind. These cookies may look like their unhealthy counterparts, but they are made of very simple ingredients.

This includes mashed bananas, whole oats, oil and whatever you want to flavor it with if you so choose and simply baking the mixture for 375 degrees F for 15 to 20 minutes.

You Can Do It!

Getting your children to eat healthily is no easy feat sometimes. Between being picky eaters and sticking to their guns, you can’t make them eat anything they are dead set against. So finding ways to get them to eat healthily is important.

If you are like me and want to instill good eating habits in your children that will last a lifetime, it is important to get creative and make it work. Start small with snack time and enjoy seeing your kids enjoy nutritious foods and see the difference it makes.

A great article, 8 Tips for Raising Healthy Eaters, may be helpful for you, too.

You may also like these other posts from Healthy Living in Colorado: How to Express Love to Your Child or How to Help Others Get Along Using DISC Inventory.

Mandy is the founder of Motherhood Lifestyle blog, Make Me Up Mandy. There’s so much to think about… ski layers, finding the warmest ski jacket, and the warmest ski socks. You need a skiing checklist so you don’t forget anything. You’ve found it!

When considering ski attire, many people wonder what to wear under ski pants. That’s where our list starts. The base layer, or long underwear, should be non-cotton. Look for fabric that keeps you dry so you can stay warmer. Wool and synthetic blends are getting really good these days compared to old style long johns.

There is also a lot of ski gear to bring along. This ski equipment list includes all you need to get: necessary ski stuff, proper ski outfit to stay warm, and what to bring on a ski trip. Here is a great list of ski essentials to get you off to the slopes in no time!

If you want to see more information about certain ski wear, just click the word on the list! I have found the best ski clothes, and winter clothes in general, to be at REI. They have the best brands with great features to keep you comfortable. I may earn a small commission for any sales from this post at no cost to you.
